Donald Don Deaton Brattin, 89, of Berea, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.Don was born in Major (Owsley County), Kentucky, on October 22, 1932 to Donald Burt and Jessie Deaton Brattin, both of whom preceded him in death. He served in the U.S. Army for 31 years and also retired from South Central Bell and later worked for AT&T. Don was a member of Viney Fork Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for over 30 years, and served as treasurer and a deacon. He was a member of the Mensa Society and the Masonic Lodge. Don liked playing checkers, chess, training & practicing karate, and enjoyed spending time with his family. Don was an ACF LIFE member and former ACF Exec. officer, and coined the name "Roll - Your - Own".
Survivors include: his wife, Joyce Smith Brattin, of Berea; one daughter, Rhonda Wells (Greg), of Richmond; two grandchildren, Brittany Bell (John) and D. Tyler Wells; four great-grandchildren, Jake Bell, Madilyn Bell, Savannah Bell, and Hunter Bell; two sisters, Anita Rasner, of Booneville, and Brenda Cardinali, of Richmond; and twelve nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earnest Brattin, and four nieces & nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 10, 2022 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Jason Eades officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell.
Pallbearers will be: Ronnie Colbenson, J.R. Smith, D. Tyler Wells, John Bell, Pat Black, and Rich Berry.
